HOW LA CASITA CACAO BEGAN
As our family began to grow and needed more space- we closed our first Airbnb listings. While this was a nice break…hosting had also became a creative outlet for Natalie and was beginning to miss it. That’s when we thought of turning the shed into an off grid tiny house! (the “off-grid” part was Selins idea). The shed sits behind the main house close to the coop and garden. It had been used for storage many years and needed a lot of work.
So In 2019, with some vision and help from our contractor we began the biggest project yet on the property – transforming the 45×15 foot shed into an elevated eco-friendly living space!
THE SPACE
The casita is now a one bedroom tiny house that invites you to curl up and relax. It has a full size bathroom, spacious kitchen and living area that can be used as a secondary bedroom. It is bright and airy with an abundance of light thanks to various large windows around the home. When in use, the wood burning stove keeps it warm and gives it a cozy cabin feel. It’s original wood beams and copper pipes have been left exposed giving it an industrial touch.
Casita Cacao was designed to marry modern comfort and natural living. We searched for the best eco brands and products available in the market to make this possible.
All kitchen appliances, air conditioner and fans are powered with solar panels. It relies on a Rheem tankless electric heater for on demand hot water, features the Nature Head composting toilet and it’s pipe system allows all its used water to be recycled and drained into the garden for zero waste.
Undoubtedly the result of this project is a space that provides all the comforts of conventional travel and living without compromising on aesthetics. And we couldn’t be more proud and thrilled to share it with you.
